Ted Talk with Julia Sweeney

Julia Sweeney gave a speech for Ted Talk a couple of years ago. She discussed a topic that is difficult for most parents to deal with when it comes to their children. THE SEX TALK!!!!!  Scary. I am now a father and dread the day when I will have to have this talk. Julia Sweeney makes fun of this subject, which is easy to do, and discusses how she had the talk with her 8 year old. She did not have to use any props or visual materials. What she did was used humor to help you imagine what it was like for her to have this scary subject breached. She talked about how she used her computer to look up some info with her daughter  hoping that info from the internet could help her answer some difficult questions her daughter had.  I was extremely engaged and entertained. But the purpose, besides hearing of funny story, eludes me a bit. I suppose that she was having the audience question what would be the best way and tools to deal with such a matter. I guess I will find out for myself when that time comes for me.

  2. Adam I imagine the difficulty of how that talk 'might' go is dependent on if your kid is a boy or a girl. Haha! I still remember my Dad having that talk with me. It was awkward but in the end...I still remember my Dad having that talk with me. And I think that's what counts. Good luck to you man!

  3. I never had the talk either, tended to avoid my family at all costs....still do actually. To be honest I'm also glad I didn't picked it all up on my own.

  4. Every parent has to dread that talk. I think once you get it out and the kid grows older than it becomes easier to accept.
In this day and age it is really important to explain and discuss sex and family values and how your child should conduct themselves sexually.

  6. I thought this was funny because my parents always made "the talk" very PG and un-informative. Great post
